Disaster Planning & Preparedness Phase
The American Red Cross works year round to assist in the education of the people to prepare for disasters and emergencies before they occur, through public service announcements, community presentations to organizations, schools, day-cares, businesses, local, state and federal agencies, and churches. We also work closely with the local governments and private businesses in planning for emergencies within the community.

DISASTER RESPONSE & RECOVERY PHASE
The American Red Cross has trained disaster volunteers and staff that respond to disasters to provide assistance to those affected by a disaster. Some families may not need any financial assistance, but we provide much more than that to our disaster clients. Whether responding to a Local disaster, National or International disaster, the American Red Cross working under a Congressional Charter of 1905, provides the following basic needs:
Food, Clothing, shelter/temporary housing, replacement of essential medications and eyeglasses, emotional support, emergency communication between families who have lost contact due to a disaster.
